Unit 10

The following is my post from Unit 3:

On a scale of 1 to 10 regarding my physical well-being, I give myself a 6. I am trying to lose weight, but I have the knowledge and tools I need to reach this goal. I simply lack motivation. As far as Spiritual well-being, I give myself an 8. I am comfortable with my spirituality and related beliefs. I believe that there is always something new to be learned though. Psychologically I give my well-being a 7. I manage my stress and anxiety with medication, but I need to find other ways to heal my mind and mental state.
My goals for physical well-being include getting more exercise and losing weight.
Spiritually, my goal is to attend church more often in order to nurture my relationship with God.
Psychologically, my goal is to spend more time meditating in order to clear my head and deal with my anxiety and stress.
I think exercising on my elliptical trainer will help me with my physical goals, and yoga will help me with my spiritual and psychological goals.
The Crime of the Century exercise was overall pleasant for me. The background music and the sound of the narrator’s voice immediately put me at ease and help me to relax. The frustrating part is trying to tune out the people around me.

Unit 10
Looking back on Unit 3, I am reevaluating my goals and overall well-being. I have definitely improved my physical well-being to at least a 7 or maybe even 8. I have been eating better and exercising regularly. I have even lost some weight, and I feel great about it!
Regarding my spiritual well-being, I still see myself at about an 8. I feel good about where I am at in this domain, but I am still leaving myself open for further exploration. I haven’t yet made more time to attend church, but it is still my intention for the immediate future.
Psychologically I see myself in the 7 – 8 range. I have utilized the tools and suggestions explored in this course to help me with my stress management issues. Meditation has been an invaluable tool. I have definitely used this regularly to help me relax and reboot.
My overall well-being has definitely improved over the course of this term. I have learned new things that can be utilized to help me as I continue to pursue my goals, and I have also had the merit of other ideas reinforced for me.

Unit 9

Introduction
It is important for practitioners to develop spiritually, psychologically, and physically because of the nature of their work. They are charged with the responsibility of the well-being and lives of others. Think of it this way. If you were consulting a book to help you learn how to do something or to solve a problem, would you just pick any book? No, you would want the most credible and well-rounded source of information. Practitioners need to develop all areas of themselves because they must also lead by example. If you had a morbidly obese doctor telling you to lose weight, how would that message be received? Wouldn’t it seem hypocritical? If you are a very religious or spiritual person and it is important to your health, are you likely to work well with a practitioner who doesn’t value the relationship and importance of spirituality and its connection to integral health?
In order to achieve the goals I have for myself, I need to work on the spiritual and physical hurdles that I am faced with. I have some extra weight that I have been trying to lose since the birth of my second child. Overcoming weight gain is a personal experience that I can draw from to be supportive to the patients I work with. I also need to be able to cope better with stress. Stress is a huge part of life. I can’t escape from it. I must learn how to deal with it. If I am self-destructing from all of the stress and pressure of life, then how can I possibly help others?
Assessment
Assessing my health and well-being in each area makes me face things about myself that I wish to change. I have meditated and reflected on these domains to gain an understanding of my current level of health and well-being. Spiritually I give myself an 8 because I wish to learn and discover more to broaden my knowledge and understanding of this important domain. Physically I give myself a 7. I am not in the best shape of my life, but I am taking steps to lose weight and improve my physical health. I have already seen an increase in my energy level and the connection that they physical and mental have to each other. Psychologically I rate myself a 7. I am faced with a lot of stress and obstacles in my current situation, but I am also finding positive outlets and coping strategies.
Goal Development
Spiritually my personal goal is to take more time for myself to discover and learn more. I am a very spiritual person but feel that there is so much more to learn.
My mental health goal is to continue my meditation to combat my shortcomings in dealing with stress. Successful implantation of stress management is crucial for my well-being.
My physical goal is to continue working on my weight loss goal. Achieving my goal weight will bring me better health and more energy. I need my health to be successful in life.
Practices for Personal Health
To foster growth in the psychological domain, I am working on stress management techniques. These techniques include meditation, focus on deep breathing, be present in the moment, reach out for social support, keeping tuned into the signals that my body is sending to me, laughter, music, and exercise (10 Relaxation Techniques That Zap Stress Fast, 2014).
To foster growth in the physical domain, I am implementing visualization as a technique. I picture the thinner, more attractive me that I want to be. I visualize how being physically fit will make me a better mom and give me more energy to accomplish the demands of everyday life. I am also using yoga to help me improve my flexibility and physical health.
To foster growth in the spiritual domain, I am allowing myself more time for self-discovery. Spirituality is very important to me, and I haven’t nurtured that side of me as much as I have wanted to. Meditation has also been a huge resource in this area. I use meditation to focus on me and shut the world out for a few minutes. Loving kindness is another source of inspiration. I draw on the love and support I get from my family and my love for them.
Commitment
I am making a commitment to track my progress by continuing on with this blog. I can use this blog as a forum to track my failures and successes and to hopefully draw on the personal experiences of my peers. I firmly believe in the power of personal experience. Having ta blog to give me access to social support as well as allow me to provide support to others is vital to my success in all domains. In six months I can review my blogs and evaluate the progress I have made in each domain. Long term success will depend on my willingness to be a lifelong student. The health and wellness field is ever changing and evolving. One must constantly be open to learning new techniques and treatment options.

Unit 8

The two practices that I have determined to be the most beneficial are visualization and meditation. Meditation has allowed me the quiet time that I need to relax and release pent up stress. Meditation has given me a tool to clear my mind and reboot. Visualization has allowed me to get a clear picture of my goals. When I can visualize positive results, I am more likely to stay the course and achieve my goals.

Unit 6

After reviewing the reading, I chose to focus on interpersonal relationships for growth and development. My relationships with others are vital to my happiness and ability to flourish. In order to improve my relationships with other, I must learn to be open. I must also try to see people as they are and not as I am. I could engage in more community events and also get my family involved in these events. This will strengthen my relationship with peers and also with my family.

Unit 5

I had a hard time with the subtle mind exercise. The narrators voices were not engaging, and did not produce a calming effect as I am used to in my hypnotherapy sessions. I think this made me resistant to the process. I did enjoy the sounds of the ocean though. I would start to relax and engage in the exercise, but would lose my focus as soon as the narrator would speak.

I have always believed that spiritual, mental, and physical wellness are closely related and dependent upon each other. I notice if I am off balance in one area, the other areas seem to be off balance as well. For instance if I am feeling sad or depressed, I often feel physically ill as well. It may be something minor such as a stomach ache or headache, but the negative impact is still felt.

Unit 4

I have been participating in hypnotherapy for about a month now. So I found the exercise to be easy. I could easily picture my loved ones (my two children) and the love that I have for them is so easy for me to tap into. These types of exercises remind me what is really important in life. Stress comes and goes, and it must be dealt with. Your relationships with your loved ones are the most important thing in life. I definitely recommend these types of exercise to others. I feel they help you refocus and find your inner balance.

A mental workout has the same goals as a physical workout. You must exercise your mind, lime your body, to keep it in shape. You obviously can't give your mind a physical workout, but you can give it a mental one. I, personally, prefer games and puzzles to challenge and exercise my mind.Mental workouts can improve your memory, help you become a more focused listener, and help you be more engaged and tuned into other activities.
